The Miller Middle School Al Exito student group typically meets weekly to talk about college and their future. The group of Latino students has added more to their plate as they now try to inspire younger students and give back to the community.
The eighth graders visited Franklin Elementary School on April 2 to start a partnership which leads to regular visits to the school to read and interact with the elementary students.
“It feels good because you get to help the little kids,” said Al Exito member and Miller eighth grader Karen Prudencio.
Oscar Cardenas, ELL teacher at Miller and a leader in Al Exito, said the group is also planning to make college visits and many of the female members are getting ready to attend the Latina Youth Conference at Iowa State University on April 6.
