Marshalltown Community School District Board of Education members were honored with several Better Boardsmanship Awards from the Iowa Association of School Boards at its annual convention on November 16 in Des Moines.

Five Marshalltown school board members received an Individual Achievement Award for earning a minimum of 125 credits through participation in IASB learning opportunities and showing a desire to take on leadership roles and engagement in service and advocacy. Individual award winners from the school board included Board President Bea Niblock, Vice President Janelle Carter and members Sean Heitmann, Mike Miller and Ben Fletcher.

The board as a whole received the Team Achievement Award, which is presented when a majority of its board members receive Individual Achievement Awards for the year and the board has a policy that supports board development.

Additionally, MCSD Superintendent Dr. Theron Schutte received an Award of Honor from IASB for earning a minimum of 125 credits as an individual and having at least two board members earn the Individual Achievement Award.
