Marshalltown High School teacher James Christensen talks to his Spanish for the World of Medicine class on Oct. 8. The class took on a project to translate diabetes education documents from English to Spanish for Central Iowa Healthcare.
Students in the Spanish for the World of Medicine class taught by James Christensen at Marshalltown High School are building connections with the community and learning more about the Spanish language at the same time as part of a special project.
Students took on a project to translate nine documents on diabetes education for Central Iowa Healthcare to disperse to the community.
It is a collaborative effort for the students as they each were assigned a section to translate from English to Spanish.
“It was a good way for us to give back,” Christensen said.
Students were able to use their Chromebooks to collaborate on the translation. Autumn Kelly of CIH presented to the class recently which led to Christensen asking her if the class could help her with any project.
