MHS duo compete at National Speech/Debate

Marshalltown High School students Libby Crawford and Chandler Fisher competed at the National Speech and Debate Tournament held June 15-20 in Overland Park, Kansas.

The pair qualified in the Duo Interpretation category during the East Iowa District Tournament held Feb. 14-15 at MHS. At nationals Crawford and Fisher completed six preliminary rounds, but fell short of the top 60 cut off for further  rounds.

The students also competed individually. Crawford competed in two rounds of prose reading and one round of storytelling. Fisher also competed in storytelling, making it to the semifinals and earning a semifinalist plaque. Dr. Janelle Hawk, MHS forensics coach, says this is the first time the school has brought home an award from the national tournament.
