Marshalltown High School Jazz I earned a Division I rating at the Iowa High School Music Association State Jazz Festival held Jan. 30, 2014, in Marshalltown.
Each band was critiqued by three judges, and then received a 30-minute clinic with a fourth judge. Judges included Dave Newport from Grinnell, John Gosnell from Ankeny and Jason Pentico from Pella. Clinicians for the evening were Phil DeLong from Indianola and Joel Poppen from Ankeny.
Receiving Division I ratings were GMG, Roland-Story and MHS Jazz I.
Humboldt received a Division II rating. Receiving Division III ratings were South Tama County and MHS Jazz II. East Marshall performed for comments only and Hampton-Dumont scratched due to severe weather in the North Central Iowa.
