First graders at Rogers Elementary practiced their reading skills with a very compassionate listener on Monday. Koira, a licensed therapy dog, spent time in Jodi Kolbe’s classroom while students exchanged stories for hugs.
“My students had such a fun time with her,” Ms. Kolbe said. “Everyone got a chance read to Koira and afterwards Mandy showed us some of Koira’s tricks.”
Koira, a nearly two-year-old goldendoodle, belongs to Chad Kolbe, Miss Kolbe’s brother. He and his fiancé, Mandy Hart, came from La Crosse, Wisc., to visit in Ms. Kolbe’s classroom. Licensed with the Coulee Regional Human Society’s Pet Therapy Program, Koira has her Canine Good Citizen certification and has participated in multiple humane society events around La Crosse.
“It was such a positive experience,” Ms. Kolbe said. “I hope to have them visit again.”
