Members of the Marshalltown Drill Team competed at the Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Association (ISDTA) Solo Competition Nov. 2 in Newton, bringing home four Division I rankings, two Division II rankings, and one performer in the top five overall.
Missy Allen, Kaylee Clemens, Raelene McGahuey, and Libby Crawford all earned Division I ratings for their performances. Cassidy Fisher, Lily Neuan each earned Division II ratings, just two points short of Division I. All competed with nearly 700 dance and color guard soloists from across Iowa.
Crawford also placed in the top five amongst 59 competitors in her division. This is the second year in a row Crawford and earned such accolades. Her fourth place overall finish earned her a trophy and placed Marshalltown High School among the top five with students from Waukee, Dubuque Senior, Ankeny Centennial and Bettendorf.
Performances were all student-choreographed, then refined and critiqued by coaches and teammates. Students could use a variety of equipment, including flag, rifle, sabre, swing flag and other props.
The majority of this year’s drill team is comprised of soon-to-be MHS graduates, so students interested students who will enter high school next year can contact team coach Megan Assenmacher-Umthun to learn how to get involved.
