Ada Brown, co-chair of the Emergency Food Box Board, accepts a check from the Franklin PTSA for $1,560.
In its second year at Franklin Elementary the “Read a Book, Feed a Family” project more than doubled its impact, with students earning $1,560 for the Emergency Food Box simply by reading books.
The project, sponsored by the Franklin Parent Teacher Student Association, donates $1 for every picture book or chapter in a chapter book a Franklin student reads during spring break. Last year students read 736 books/chapters. This year 95 students participated reading a combined 1,560 books/chapters.
On Monday, April 15, the top readers in each grade helped present a check to Ada Brown from the Emergency Food Box.
