The Bobcat Marching Band from Marshalltown High School earned its 12th consecutive Division I rating at the Iowa State Marching Band Festival Oct. 6, 2012, in Fort Dodge.
Fort Dodge was one of four sites across northern Iowa hosting the festival, with another four across southern Iowa. The Bobcat Band first traveled to Story City that morning to rehearse at Roland-Story High School before arriving in Fort Dodge Saturday afternoon.
Bands were critiqued by a panel of four judges, who gave out scores in the areas of music execution, marching execution, music general effect and marching general effect. Marshalltown’s overall score was a 90.6.
“Scores in the eighties at state contest are excellent scores,” said Bret Lee, director and coordinator of instrumental music for Marshalltown Schools. “To receive a ninety represents a high quality performance and strongly reflects the hard work ethic of the students.”
