Students in Kelley Dickey’s Contemporary Social Issues class spoke with US Senator Chuck Grassley this morning via Skype.
The students have been discussing the current financial situation and national debt, so Ms. Dickey wrote to the senator’s office asking if he would talk to students. This morning about 40 students (two class sections) gathered in the MHS Library to talk with the senator on Skype from his office in Washington.
“The purpose of this is the spirit of dialogue in representative government,” Grassley said, noting it was great to get the opinions of younger members of society.
The students asked questions on a wide range of current issues, including the national debt, welfare, Medicare and Medicaid, taxes and the Occupy Wall Street movement.
